DO THE "FRIENDS OF ESSEXVILLE-HAMPTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS" BOND ISSUE HAVE CORPORATE SUPPORT? Mailers Show McLaren Bay Region Mailing Address For "Grassroots" Effort

Like many Michigan school districts, the Essexville-Hampton district is facing repairs and upgrades that include leaky roofs, crumbling infrastructure, and outdated technology.

Last August, voters shot down 30-year, $41 million dollar bond proposal.

Voters in Essexville and Hampton Township will be given another chance to vote next month to approve two tax increases—pared back from August to raise $4.9 million dollars. The two proposals would fund improvements for the district over the next 15 years.

A parents group, Friends of Essexville-Hampton Public Schools, was formed last December and has conducted an extensive social media and mass mailing campaign to get out the vote.

The effort is headed by Essexville parent, Magen Samyn, the Vice president of Marketing and Public Relations at McLaren Bay Region.

The Bay City hospital, formerly known as Bay Regional Medical Center, is located at 315 Mulholland—the same mailing address used by the Friends of Essexville-Hampton Public Schools on its mailers and Facebook page.

It's unclear if McLaren approved the use of its address for the group, or if any advocacy for this worthy effort is conducted on site during business hours.

Miss Fortune has contacted a McLaren corporate representative for comment, and will provide an update shortly.
