FOLLOW-UP QUESTION: New Jersey Governor Chris Christie

Chris Christie, appearing Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union", was asked by host Jake Tapper "who at the national level deserves a punch in the face?"

Christie replied, according to the Wall Street Journal's account, “Oh, the national teachers union, who has already endorsed Hillary Clinton 16, 17 months before the election.”

Tapper: “Why?”

Governor Christie: “Because they’re not for education for our children. They’re for greater membership, greater benefits, greater pay for their members. And they are the single most destructive force in public education in America. I have been saying that since 2009. I’ve got the scars to show it. But I’m never going to stop saying it, because they never change their stripes.”

Christie's frequently argued with teachers in public forums. In a November 2013 New Jersey gubernatorial campaign appearance, he was seen scolding a teacher named Melissa Tomlinson when she challenged him on the notion that the state’s schools were failing: “I am tired of you people. What do you want?”

So Christie wants to out-Trump Donald Trump--fine.

But why no meaningful follow-up question from Jake Tapper?

Something like this: "So you'd punch the national teacher's union in the face. I see, OK fair enough. So... what would you do if the teacher's union was shaped like, oh I don't know, say an éclair, and it had molten chocolate icing drizzled over the top and it was slowly dripping down the sides, and the doughnut shop was having a two-for-one sale?"
